The Mirante do Gavião Amazon Lodge is located in Novo Airão the last city accessible by land, 180km northwest of Manaus, in the state of Amazonas. Facing the Anavilhanas National Park , the second largest river archipelago in the world (with more than 400 islands), in a region of great beauty, the design hotel stands out for its imposing presence, based on Amazonian shipbuilding techniques.
The panoramic view of the Rio Negro , with its dark waters and dense vegetation, marks the setting where traditional tourism is left behind and the remote and preserved regions of the Amazon are revealed to our guests.
Despite its vastness, much of what one experiences in the extensive Amazonian plains is observing nature from the ground or the river. The harpy eagle, the largest bird of prey in Brazil and one of the largest in the world, also inhabits this area, and to have the privilege of the bird’s vantage point from which to view the forest and rivers, the idea arose to offer other observation angles.
The combination of providing viewpoints at the highest points of the hotel, over 15 meters high, and offering a view of one of the most beautiful sunset scenes on the Rio Negro and the islands of the Anavilhanas Archipelago, gave the name Mirante do Gavião.
Initially, the lodge was designed to accommodate the embarkation and disembarkation of boats from the Katerre Ecotourism Expedition , based in Novo Airão since 2004. With limited accommodations, the Mirante do Gavião Amazon Lodge went from a support point to a protagonist when its architectural design, by Atelier O’Reilly , received several awards in 2014, the year of its opening, attracting much of the attention of its “older siblings,” the boats. Thus, the comfortable facilities and the Camu-Camu Restaurant, with the signature of Chef Debora Shornik , gained their own concept and clientele.
Mirante do Gavião promotes experiences integrated with the jungle and its people. Everything it encompasses has a purpose, encompassing experiences and involving life stories: those of employees, riverside communities, clients, partners, and the forest itself!
This ideal is evident in the architecture, landscaping, gastronomy, services provided by locals, tours, and the way it integrates authenticity and regional cultural elements with the setting of international hospitality.
Since August 2014, the team has consisted of more than 45 people from the community itself, who have received training to provide excellent service to the standards of luxury hotels, but without losing the smiles and cordiality so natural to the people of the Amazon!
In 2019, Mirante do Gavião was expanded, reaching a total of 13 accommodations. The restructuring included the implementation of more social areas, and currently the lodge’s leisure facilities offer guests: a living room, hammock and games area, wellness space , viewpoints overlooking the Rio Negro , a swimming pool, and the restaurant lounge, one of the guests’ favorite spots. The entire structure was conceived, planned, designed, and built to harmonize with its surroundings.
