Quito City Tour plus Middle of the World

Explore Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Quito is surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, yet is only 14 miles south of the Equator. The Quito City Tour plus Middle of the World Tour starts early at 9h00 as we will visit several of Quito’s most characteristic landmarks and structures, while being filled with multiple historical references.

Quito City Tour plus Middle of the World Description:

The city is known for its magnificent Spanish-Colonial Architecture and colorful street life. Quaint family owned shops and open air markets are steps away from sky scrapers and Spanish-Baroque Cathedrals.

We start with a visit to the Guapulo Church with a fantastic view of the valleys. The colonial section of “Old Quito” is a United Nations World Heritage Site.

We walk around Independence Square and we see the Presidencial Palace and Arch Bishop’s Palace. We continue forward to La Compania Church with its ornate façade and breathtaking golden altars.

Continuing with the architectural trip, we then visit the Monastery and Church of San Francisco, where we can view up close priceless examples of Spanish art and sculpture dating back to several generations. We end this part of the trip at the Impressive Parliament Building, where the history of Ecuador is recorded.

The we go to the hill of Panecillo, where the Virgin of Quito stands tall. At this location, we can get spectacular panoramic views of the city in all directions. During the months of November and December, the hill is decorated to celebrate the holidays.

Time permitting, we will visit the artisans market (Mercado de los Artesanos) where you can buy souvenirs and test your skills at haggling.

At noon, we continue towards the “Equatorial Monument”. Located at 10,000 feet (610m) above sea level, one can stand on two hemispheres at the same time! It is said that seeting one foot in the North and the other in the South at the same time at this location will recharge your spiritual energy!

Our next stop is the Inti-Nam Museim where we can explore some history and enjoy some fun activities such as balancing eggs, watch how water reacts on opposite hemisphere plug holes, among other things.
