Made famous by instagramers from all over the world, the Rainbow Mountain Tour is a can’t miss. This full day tour does require a superior fitness level as the trek is difficult.
Rainbow Mountain Tour Description:
A hike designed for adventure lovers, Rainbow Mountain. This is a relatively new attraction in Cusco, as until a few years ago, its multicolored surface was covered in ice.
We will depart early from the hotel to head to Cusipata, and from there, we will transfer to Phulawasipata. There, we will begin the ascent on foot, following a beautiful stream.
The journey will be the perfect excuse to enjoy the local nature, with herds of llamas and alpacas, as well as the majestic Apu Ausangate, the highest snow-capped peak in Cusco.
We will also have the opportunity to interact with the local community members and see the potato fields they work on daily. After approximately an hour and a half of walking, we will arrive at Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain or the Mountain of Seven Colors.
This medium-difficulty hike will take us to an altitude of 5,036 meters above sea level. The view we’ll obtain will be the best reward. The minerals in the mountain’s soil give its slopes and summit curious shades of red, purple, green, yellow, and pink, among other colors.
Let’s get our phones and cameras ready for this spectacle! From there, we will start the return journey to Phulawasipata. After covering a total of 8 kilometers on foot, we will head to Cusipata, where we will enjoy a traditional and revitalizing lunch.
