Tijuca Forest Jeep Tour Rio de Janeiro

If you are looking to see Rio de Janeiro’s Urban Rainforest, we recommend the Tijuca Forest Jeep Tour Rio de Janeiro Tour.

Tijuca Forest Jeep Tour Rio de Janeiro Description:

One thing that makes Rio so beautiful is the lush green everywhere. The Tijuca Rainforest plays a large role in keeping the city green and protecting its water sources.

Home to hundreds of species of plants and wildlife, waterfalls, trails, and more, spending a few hours in this jungle refreshes and reinvigorates with ease.

You’ll visit small waterfalls, the famous Vista Chinesa, take an easy trail, and learn about the history of this immense urban forest (perhaps the largest in the world), which was reclaimed from farmland in the 19th century.

After being used for sugarcane and coffee plantations for many years, the area was widely devastated, which caused a huge imbalance in drinking water sources.

To put a halt on this shortage, Emperor Dom Pedro II ordered full reforestation of all area, that took thirteen years to be done, and where over 100,000 seedlings of native species were planted.

This initiative has eventually transformed this public space in one of the biggest urban green areas ever planted by man, a true Natural Heritage with many attractions.

The coolest part is that you will be rolling through the city in an actual Jeep with the top-down so the views are incredible. Plus you will see the contrast between a lush rainforest and the big city.
