The Peruvian Amazon is the 4th largest rainforest in the world. It offers great opportunities to spot wildlife in its natural habitat, explore lush jungles, cruise the Amazon river, and be one with nature. Our Peru Amazon Rainforest Package focuses more on the northern Peruvian Amazon – the Iquitos region.
Iquitos is the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road – it’s accessible only by air or boat. This area is the birthplace of the Amazon compared to other parts that are only tributaries. This means there’s wildlife here which isn’t found in other rivers, like the rare pink river dolphin. This region also offers opportunities to visit indigenous villages such as the Yagua tribe.
The city is used mostly as a transit point to get to the jungle lodges & Amazon cruises. 1 to 2 nights in Iquitos is recommended depending on your flight times. Our Package also includes an additional 2 or 3 nights in an Amazon Lodge and can be customized to your preferences.
We offer the package year-round. January to March is the rainy season, which makes travel difficult and uncomfortable due to the rain and mud. The best time to visit the jungle is from April to December, with peak times between May and August, when temperatures often exceed 30°C or 86°F, although some say that the rainy season is best as it makes it easier to spot wildlife gathering around the dry areas of land.
Our Peru Amazon Rainforest Package is a great add-on if you are booking our Machu Picchu Peru Package or Inca Trail Adventure Package.
